For my second theme choice I decided to create a simple vase. It is glazed with a simple white inside and outside on the top, and then the bottom, where it is wider, I used the scrap glaze which turned out as a dark blue. I saw this design actually on a piece that was in the store and wanted to try it. I really like how this piece turned out.
For this plate I was really focusing on my theme. I focused on creating a simple plate, that was basic and obvious as to what it was. Then I worked on the glaze. I used a black against the clear to add contrast to make the design stand out more.
This piece was actually based on some plates I have on my inspiration page. Having the design on only one third of the plate makes it stand out more than if it were on one half. I put a lot of effort into this piece and I really like the way it turned out. This is my finished lidded project. I glazed it using the drak brown and burnt orange. The lid and top of the vase is the dark brown, and the color drips down over the orange. The orange also fades in, similar to a sunset. Closer to where the brown ends, the orange is lighter and towards the botton it becomes more dark.
Considering this is only the second lid i've ever made, I think it turned out really great. It fits really good as well. I am really proud of this project. This is a little late, but my notes were all on time, it just took FOREVER to have it fired. Plus I had to remake it.
I really like this project. I started with a bowl and then altered it to be more of a triangle shape, then I added more of a dip for the spout. I then added a handle. The outside is glazed with a white, and the inside was glazed with a dark brown. Since the white went slightly over the brown on the inside, it dripped and caused a greenish color to appear. I think this glaze job really brings out the differences in this project. For my second choice project I used the plate that I had originally made for my set of three, that I thought was two small for the set.
I was able to glaze this once we were able to use the kilns again. I used a new purple glaze, which after being glazed turned out to be more of a royal blue. Being honest, this is not the best plate that I have made. |
